Lise's Ghost

Original sound creation in binaural sound / Design and installation of a listening room in the heart of the exhibition.

ABOUT US

We produced an immersive sound creation in binaural sound, broadcast in a listening room, for the duration of the exhibition "Lise Deharme, la Femme Surréaliste" presented at the Musée de la Chalosse (Landes) from April to November 2024. Labelled an Exhibition of National Interest by the French Ministry of Culture, the exhibition pays tribute to André Breton's "Lady with a glove", to the friend, muse and patron of the Surrealists, to the woman of letters, the poetess, the novelist, the columnist, to the singular and elusive artist, on the occasion of the Centenary of the Surrealist Manifesto.

The exhibition space is divided into 3 sections:

  • LISE AND THE LANDES: Photographs, writings and archival documents illustrate the history of the Montfleury villa, the memories and friendships of Lise Deharme and her family in the Landes region.
  • LISE, MÉCÈNE DU SURREALISME: Evocation of her office and Surrealism through Lise Deharme's collaborations with the collective of artists and intellectuals who made up this avant-garde movement. Numerous works of art (paintings, drawings, photographs, sculptures, writings) by Man Ray, André Breton, Paul Eluard, Jean Cocteau, Joan Miró, Robert Desnos, Antonin Artaud and Marcel Saint-Martin illustrate her passions and collaborative work with her Surrealist friends.
  • LISE, LA FEMME SURRÉALISTE: A forgotten artist, Lise Deharme is a female figure of Surrealism. Lise Deharme's collaborations with three women are highlighted: Claude Cahun, Leonor Fini and Fina Gomes de Revenga. Other presentations by artists such as Aube Breton (André Breton's daughter), Maria Martins, Valentine Hugo and Dora Maar demonstrate that Surrealism offered women a broad framework for expression.

Several mediation tools have been designed to help visitors discover the exhibition

  • Touch screens for consulting archive documents and videos.
  • Magnetic exquisite cadavers introduce visitors to this collective game emblematic of the Surrealist movement.
  • Objects reconditioned for sound diffusion.
  • A FALC (Facile à Lire et à Comprendre) booklet dedicated to the exhibition, continuing the Musée de la Chalosse's inclusive approach.

And

  • An immersive sound creation and production in binaural sound for a mediation that appeals to the emotions and stimulates the imagination of visitors: "Le Fantôme de Lise Deharme" (The Ghost of Lise Deharme).

The text was written by author Nicolas Perge, who also wrote the biography of Lise Deharme, and the sound design and production by Eddie ladoire. The voice of the ghost is that of singer-songwriter Pierre Guénard (ex-Radio Elvis, now pursuing a solo career, also a novelist, with notably the publication of "Zéro Gloire", published by Flammarion).
