Broadcast on our Listeners Production application in French and Spanish
offers a different way to visit the museum, including a (re)discovery of the Salon Dorado bas-relief, a work by French artist Louis Féron that represents the main events and periods in Costa Rican history, from the Pre-Columbian era to the 1940s.
Three artists, two writers and a composer, were invited to take up residencies at the Alliance Française and the Museum of Costa Rican Art in San José, to write and compose the original literary and sound creations for this artistic tour which, far from being a traditional audioguide, enhances the experience of visiting the museum.
Our missions:
A historical and fantastic literary creation for an unusual visit to the museum and a renewed reading of Louis Féron's bas-relief in the Salon doré.
Costa Rican author and journalist Maria Montero and French science-fiction writer Norbert Merjagnan have teamed up to write a story that allows you to enter both the history of Costa Rica as depicted by Louis Féron in his bas-relief of the Salon Dorado, and the history of a fictional character, a woman named Guampu. Guampu speaks to you, she is the voice of all the women in the history evoked, both living memory and ghost. She has lived many lives, and goes back in time to her first incarnation as an indigenous woman. The memory of a shamanic trance shifts Guampu into a poetic and fantastic tone, evoking the power of the forest and of life.
A contemporary musical creation and soundscapes composed from sounds recorded in Costa Rica for an immersive listening experience.
French composer Eddie Ladoire drew inspiration from musical pieces by Olivier Messiaen and Julián Carrillo on the themes of travel, the relationship between space and time, and Central America, to write original music that refers to the modern music of Féron's time and to the piano present in the living-room space. This strange, mysterious music, combined with electroacoustic compositions based on concrete sounds recorded in Costa Rica, in the city and in the forest, and the lively, committed performance of selected actors, help to draw you into Guampu's extraordinary adventures.
